When the growth spurt arrives, No. 1 in Red for Houston Cougars still reads as a youth football jersey rather than a stopgap.

Game day, and the rest of the week

A kid will wear the Houston Cougars jersey far more often than an adult in the same house would, which is the argument for getting one that holds up. It goes through school weeks, weekends and the whole of the season. It is built with that in mind.

How it is made

The Houston Cougars jersey built this way stays easy to live with from the first week through the last. The design has no edge to lift at the corner and no weight to pull the shoulders down, so it goes on and off without a second thought. Simplicity is the entire feature.

Washing and everyday wear

Turn it inside out, wash it cold with the rest of the laundry, and hang it to dry — nothing special needed. Keep the iron away from the pressed graphics, and fold it like any other shirt between games. The Houston Cougars jersey asks for no looking after beyond that.

Questions buyers ask

• Does the print on this Houston Cougars jersey feel raised?

The Houston Cougars graphics sit flat against the Red fabric — pressed rather than sewn — so the surface stays smooth and the jersey stays light. The color reads evenly, and the finish layers comfortably under a jacket.

• Can this Houston Cougars Football jersey go in the dryer?

Low heat is fine, but this Houston Cougars jersey dries fast on a hanger after a cold, inside-out wash, so the dryer is optional. Keep the iron away from the pressed graphics — that is the one part of the Red finish that asks for care.

• Does this Houston Cougars jersey fit true to size?

The Houston Cougars youth cut runs true to size with room for a T-shirt underneath. Buyers who want a looser game-day fit, or who plan to layer it in cold weather, usually go one size up. The shoulders sit close and the hem falls at hip level.

• Whose name is on the back of this Houston Cougars jersey?

Nobody's — the back of this Houston Cougars jersey stays plain in the Red colorway, with the pressed team graphics on the front carrying the look. That makes it a safe pick for fans who do not want a name that leaves when rosters turn over.
